Youth centre would help solve social unrest in Balbriggan says Fine Gael candidate Okezie E Emuaga (Ireland)
Fine Gael's candidate for Balbriggan Okezie E Emuaga has suggested a youth centre to help solve social unrest in the area. The Nigerian filmed himself outside an unused Fás centre in the town to make the proposal.
"In Balbriggan ward, we have issues of youth anti-social behaviour which from my meeting with the youths confirms that it comes because children have no place to really exercise themselves, to play their music, to really have a bond their energies...for youths above the age of 12 going to 17, they don't really have a befitting environments to really be themselves."
Emuaga said he noticed an old Fás office was lying unoccupied and he said he wanted to suggest that it be converted into a youth centre. He said it was a suitable location because it was on the outskirts of the town and the noise that would come from music and creative arts would not disturb anybody. He said this would help solve the anti-social issues in Balbriggan.
In November 2017, around 700 locals protested outside the Garda station over anti-social behaviour in the town but were accused by racism by some callers to 98FM because it is primarily African gangs causing the unrest.
