"The Maple Leaf Forever" is a Canadian song written by Alexander Muir (1830--1906) in 1867, the year of Canada's Confederation. He wrote the work after serving with the Queen's Own Rifles of Toronto in the Battle of Ridgeway against the Fenians in 1866.

"From 1879 to 1982, our nation celebrated what we today call "Canada Day", as Dominion Day. Despite the change in holiday, no official name change is mentioned in the 1982 Constitution Act. The official name of Canada is still "Dominion of Canada.
Happy Dominion Day!"
