When you are aiming for a straight or even rhythm and you still end up with a swing rhythm, separate the two sounds of the shuffle in your mind as brush and spank or brush out and brush in and literally say to yourself in your head "brush, spank" as you do each of those sounds - by separating the shuffle into those two separate movements in your head - it will also (hopefully) separate them at your feet as well.
