Truck Camping: Camping and Backpacking in the Cold
Lately, I have loved the combo trips that involve both truck camping, hiking, and backpacking. On this trip, my friend John joined me to do one night of truck camping and another night of backpacking and camping. We got some rain the first night and I was able to deploy my ARB 2500 Awning to keep us dry. We also used my Solo Stove Bonfire under the awning to keep us relatively warm. On the second night, we hit the trail to a small campsite at a pine grove with a water source nearby. This spot is absolutely one of my favorites in the Charles C. Deam Wilderness Area. The temperatures got down to about 24 degrees the second night but I was pretty cozy in my Zpacks Duplex Tent with my Hammock Gear zero degree top quilt and Nemo Cosmo 25L Primaloft Sleeping Pad. The next morning we opted out of having breakfast and instead had coffee only. We wanted to hit the trail. I did get to use my GSI Ultralight Java Drip though and my Expedition Research Tea Kettle. That makes for a quick and seamless coffee experience. I heated the water on my MSR Pocket Rocket 2. All in all, I have to say this was a very relaxing trip. So much so, that I didn't really film as much as I wanted to. I hope you enjoy the video. Thanks
