Meat pie at Christmas is a tradition in many parts of Canada.
It's is very easy to make as all the pie ingredients are put into a pan and cooked together.
2 small potatoes, diced small or grated if you prefer
1 medium onion, finely chopped
2 cloves crushed garlic
1 1/2 pounds ground meat of your choice
The spice mix includes:
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp celery seed
1/4 tsp ground cloves
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
and 1/2 cup water
Bring all ingredients to a boil and cook uncovered over medium heat for 20 minutes.
Let meat mixture cool or you can put it in the refrigerator and make the pie the next day.
After rolling out the pie crust, add the meat and cover with top crust.
Cut vents in the top for steam to escape, and bake at 400 degrees for about 45 minutes or until lightly browned. You can see we baked some pumpkins in the oven at the same time as the pie. Maybe pumpkin pie and some treats for the chickens are in order.
You can serve it plain, but many people like it with ketchup.
