Tripping on Travel: Plainfield, Connecticut

The route I drove in this video, Rt 12 south, is west of, and generally parallel, to I-395 and is less than one half mile from the interstate. The town of Plainfield comprises four villages; Plainfield, Moosup, Wauregan and Central Village. The town was considered an industrial center in the 19th and early 20th centuries because two local rivers provided power to the different mills around the town. Thus, job opportunities attracted local workers from a variety of ethnic origins and countries. For some time, Plainfield thrived as an industrial center. But as it approached the later years of the 20th century, industry slipped away. And now the town cares far less about development and thriving commercially, than they do keeping development and commercial progress under control.
