Obi Ekoba is standing in Ballyfermot for Fine Gael to rid the area of degradation & corruption (Ireland)
Fine Gael's candidate in the local elections for the Ballyfermot — Drimnagh area is Obi Ekoba, a 20 year old Nigerian, who hopes to rid the area of degradation and corruption. Ekoba is the outgoing treasurer of the Fine Gael youth wing and an award-winning third-year law student in TCD according to Metro Eireann, a bimonthly "multicultural" newspaper which was founded by Nigerians Chinedu Onyejelem and Abel Ugba in April 2000 to highlight issues relating to non-Irish people living in Ireland.
In is campaign ad, Ekoba describes himself as a vibrant and dynamic scholar and his decision to run for councillor under Fine Gael was driven by his concerns for degradation and corruption in the area.
Ekoba wants to:
1 .Hire and step up Garda presence for rapid and effective response to crimes and anti-social behaviour in the area.
2 .Beef up the number of youth workers in the area to combat the alarming rate of gang formation.
3. Stop illegal littering and dumping of refuse.
4. Break up the formation of bike gangs which according to Obi is a new development
Ekoba's mother who Ekoba describes as his role model and mentor is calling on the entire Igbo community to come out in their masses to vote "for their son".
The Igbo are an ethnic group native to the present-day south-central and southeastern Nigeria.
