"NAPLES, Fla. – Healthcare workers are running on empty.
Hospitals across the country are filled with COVID-19 patients, are short on staff, and now it’s doctors and nurses who are asking the community for help.
Dr. Pia Myers is the Director of the Pediatric Emergency Department at Naples Community Hospital. She says they’re seeing more pediatric patients with COVID-19 than ever before and you can see it’s taking an emotional toll.
For more than 17 months our hospitals have been battling the COVID-19 pandemic and right now it’s worse than it’s ever been in Southwest Florida.
“As a health care worker myself and I’ve seen it on the front lines with our staff, it’s challenging,” said Jon Kling, Chief Operations Officer for Naples Community Hospital (NCH). He says our nurses and doctors are working long hours, day in and day out, because of that they’re exhausted.
“We have the tools in our toolbox to do the best we can with our patients and sometimes it’s still not enough,” said Kling"
