Stabat Mater by Giovanni Palestrina

It is difficult to confirm when Italian composer Giovanni Palestrina completed this motet for eight voices, however a general assessment is that this work was finished in 1591. The work was completed on behalf of Pope Gregory XIV for the Papal choir. The text of the motet is likely taken from the works of St. Bonaventure, a Franciscan Philosopher who died in 1274, and focuses on the suffering of Mary Magdalene at the crucifixion.
