Tchaikovsky completed his ballet ‘The Nutcracker’ in 1892, with the premiere performance taking place the same year at the Imperial Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg. The ballet is based on the story “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King” by E.T.A Hoffmann.

The dance ‘Das de deux’ is performed towards the end of act 2.
