Earlier this week Alex Jones was banned from YouTube Facebook LinkedIn and the Apple ecosystem. this was a calculated decision by private companies whose primary goal is profit. there is an argument going around that says that this is an example of the silencing of free speech. this is an incorrect Viewpoint to have.
Alex Jones is a very polarizing and controversial figure in modern media. from accusations that the September 11th attacks were an inside job perpetrated by the government, two claims that the Sandy Hook and Parkland shooting victims are crisis actors, this man has been a very controversial figure, causing some of the worst Rifts in our society in many years.
Alex Jones was banned from these platforms for multiple egregious violations of the terms of service of those platforms. for example on YouTube, Jones’ Channel was banned from live streaming after a community guidelines strike was put against it. knowing full well of what he was doing, Jones used an alternate account in order to live stream on their platform despite the limitations put in place on his account. YouTube could not easily dismiss this, as it would put them in a precarious position when enforcing their own rules on their platform.
Jones, having a platform of his own in the form of infowars.com, is more than free to continue creating content that upholds his own values and beliefs however he wishes. this does not entitle him to demand that professionally run companies with their own websites and platforms be required to host his own content on the grounds of “free speech” after all, the First Amendment only protects citizens from the government itself limiting the freedom of speech. this does not limit the powers or privileges of private companies to self-police its own platform and ban and allow individuals as it will.
in my own personal opinion, Alex Jones has been a very polarizing and confusing figure in how he operates and controls his own show. he continually puts himself..
