Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews is embarking to China this week with the interest of education and trade as a top agenda for the state.
Mr Andrews will meet with multiple Chinese officials to increase Melbourne’s desirability as a university choice for Chinese students and intends to outbid other international and domestic competitors.
“Those students are a really significant part of our Victorian economy – close to $13-14 billion worth of economic activity can be traced back to our international educational sector,” Mr Andrews said during a media conference.
“It’s about making sure that we have as many students choosing to come to Melbourne as possible – not going to Canada, not going to the US, not going to England, instead, or indeed can I say Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, you know we want them to come to Melbourne.”
