The "Voices Of Africa" Choral & Percussion Ensemble has been moving and grooving since 1984. It started off as a children's Ensemble, made a huge hit as an All Women's Ensemble with their featured song, "We Are Women, And We Play Drums", moved on to expanding and featuring male artists from the Philadelphia area and Guinea West Africa.
Today, many of the original members have moved on to share their talents, skills and abilities in other organizations and projects. They are certainly remembered and given much appreciation for their work with VOA.
"Voices Of Africa" is a dedicated "Keeper Of the Culture" as can be seen by the traditional dance, drumming and song included in its repertoire along with several original musical pieces that fuse the traditional composition of West African Percussive genres with a little creative flare.
Market Place is an original composition developed by the original members of VOA. The Market Place is a festive place in African traditions. People come to buy and sell but also to socialize and share their talents, through drumming, music, song and dance.
