Goober Peas - Konföderiertenlied (Confederate Civil War Song) + Deutsche Übersetzung
A traditional folk song originating in the Southern United States. It was popular with Confederate soldiers during the American Civil War, and is still sung frequently in the South to this day. It has been recorded and sung by many artists.
The lyrics are a description of daily life during the later part of the Civil War for Southerners. After being cut off from the rail lines and their farm land, they had little to eat aside from boiled peanuts (that are called "goober peas"). After boiling in salt water peanuts take on a salty taste, becoming softer with prolonged cooking, and somewhat resembling a pea or bean, to which they are related because they are legumes and not a nut.
First published in 1866 by A. E. Blackmar in New Orleans. Blackmar humorously lists A. Pindar as the lyricist and P. Nutt as the composer (Peanuts were also known as pindars).
Erstveröffentlichung 1866 von A. E. Blackmar in New Orleans.
