UNIT Paul Figueras
This is one of an extensive series of portraits of people I knew in and around school during the 1970s. Each boy and girl is provided with a vocal ballad and an instrumental depiction of their character. I commenced the series in 2011 shortly after I completed my 1st autobiography (Faded Fragments Of Distant Dreams). Since 2018 we’ve begun to incorporate trios and quartets of bass guitar parts into our numbers since 3 of us are perfectly competent bassists and I refuse to regard the bass guitar as ‘part of the rhythm section’. Such an attitude is an insult to the instrument and its players.
Figueras was a boy of mixed ancestry – half Latin American, half English. I knew him for years, from Anstey Junior School through all my years in Amery Hill School. He attended the same boxing club in Alton used by Terry Cashmore (who is also celebrated in our catalogue of school day tributes – check out Terry Cashmore and A Song For Terry Cashmore if you’re intrigued). The vocal tribute (A Song For Paul Figueras) is also available on this site.
Andy Martin – Alto Saxophone, Hammond Organ, Piano, Korg M1.
Fabian Fritze – Bass Guitar.
Keilan Knight – Bass Guitar.
Colin Murrell – Bass Guitar, Drums.
