Edit for headphones, December 2021, to enjoy the song more intensely, especially the stunning bass. A song of the 1972 album "Harvest" (2014 Pono remaster). "The Stray Gators" were the studio session musicians who worked with Neil Young on this album, among whom was the famous Jack Nitzsche, known for his collaboration on many songs of The Rolling Stones. A few stunning songs from one of Jack Nitzsche's albums are here: https://youtu.be/3-7dzTg-ikY
The others were Tim Drummond on bass, Kenny Buttrey on drums, Ben Keith on pedal steel guitar. The high pitched voice you hear maybe is Linda Ronstadt. James Taylor and Linda Ronstadt sang backup during the sessions, they were in town to appear on The Johnny Cash Show.
New York magazine The Village Voice named Neil Young '70s Artist Of The Decade.
OLD MAN
(Neil Young)
old man look at my life
I'm a lot like you were
old man look at my life
I'm a lot like you were
old man look at my life
twenty four and there's so much more
live alone in a paradise
that makes me think of two
love lost such a cost
give me things that don't get lost
like a coin that won't get tossed
rollin' home to you
old man take a look at my life I'm a lot like you
I need someone to love me the whole day through
ah one look in my eyes and you can tell that's true
lullabies look in your eyes
run around the same old town
doesn't mean that much to me
to mean that much to you
I've been first and last
look at how the time goes past
but I'm all alone at last
flowing home to you
old man take a look at my life I'm a lot like you
I need someone to love me the whole day through
ah one look in my eyes and you can tell that's true
old man look at my life
I'm a lot like you were
old man look at my life
I'm a lot like you were
