WAIT TILL YOUR FATHER GETS HOME, the only successful, animated sitcom in the 27 year gap between the FLINTSTONES and SIMPSONS, progresses to its 26th regular episode...
I wonder if the demand for a second season was a bit of a surprise for HB. The animation and shot continuity here has some lapses that make me suspect the show wasn't being done by their first-string crew.
Well-known comedienne Phyllis Diller had recently guest-starred on Saturday morning's NEW SCOOBY-DOO MOVIES, so I reckon she knew the drill well enough that swinging-by to record for this episode was no big deal. She plays a female police detective about a year before Angie Dickinson hit with POLICE WOMAN. Though Diller's zany, aggressively unprofessional character seems more like a campy Batman villain than a crime-solver.
Diller was only in her fifties at this time, but was already working the Horny Old Battleaxe gimmick to the max. Compare to Dickinson, who was in her forties when she hit peak sex-symbol fame playing her live-action cop.
From September 1973.
