Nigel Farage criticises BBC for not broadcasting his speech (UK)
Nigel Farage has responded after the BBC broadcasted a speech by Belgian MEP Guy Verhofstadt but failed to show a viral speech by the former Ukip leader who was also speaking in the European Parliament on Wednesday.
Nigel Farage referenced the fact the BBC had still not broadcast his defiant Brexit speech, which has since racked up several million views across the internet and on social media. Responding to LBC caller Mike, Mr Farage said: “They broadcast a large chunk of Verhofstadt being, shall we say, somewhat critical of our country. And at the time an editor could have made the decision and said ‘well, look, what Nigel said today isn’t important and say we don’t need to do it'.
"And that is fine – people don’t need to make judgements.
“I suppose, my answer to you is this. The BBC is a public service broadcaster and if a speech given in the European Parliament is just a few days later on 4.8 million views you would’ve thought at some point that that would be used or the content within it debated and discussed.
“And it hasn’t been.”
British author Martin Knight highlighted the issue on Twitter and wrote: “BBC News at 6 just showed Guy Verhofstadt slagging off U.K At the European Parliament, but not Nigel Farage's spirited defence of Theresa May.
“At this delicate time, you'd have thought our state broadcaster would give equal billing to a patriotic point of view.”
Brexiteer columnist Carole Malone responded and stated it was “shameful” the BBC did not run the speech.
