The Three Elizabeths Suite by Eric Coates

In 1941, composer Eric Coates received a letter from Reverend Arthur A. Hall. The contents of this letter gave Coates the idea of composing a suite to represent certain generations of the British Royal Family. By 1944, Coates had completed the suite, which would represent Elizabeth I, Elizabeth of Glamis, and Elizabeth II (in that order).

This work is comprised of three movements:
I. Halcyon Days (Elizabeth Tudor)
II. Springtime in Angus (Elizabeth of Glamis, Queen Mother)
III. Youth of Britain (Princess Elizabeth)
