Handel completed a set of six organ concertos between 1735 and 1736. The work was collectively denoted opus no. 4, and was originally intended to be played in-between performances of his oratorios of Esther, Deborah and Athalia at the John Rich Theatre in Covent Gardens.

This concerto is comprised of four movements:
I. Larghetto
II. Allegro
III. Alla Siciliana
IV. Presto
