Paul also said that he had the right to be married, to get financial support from those he preaches to, but he won’t do so if it will distract or hinder people from receiving the Gospel.
We are to simply have it, the Gospel, as our priority. HIM as our priority and live in that plan that HE has for us. A Christian, wife, a Christian Husband, A Christion father, mother, worker, employee or employer.
EXO 13:21, The LORD was going before them in a pillar of cloud by day to lead them on the way, and in a pillar of fire by night to give them light, that they might travel by day and by night.
You know the old Rabbis taught that Israel was supplied with water by the same rock that Moses struck originally, so that the literal rock followed them. Some other rabbis taught and teach that the water followed Israel as in a stream. It’s amazing that they can’t see the Messiah in this. They can’t see Yeshua.
Paul refers to the brass serpent on the pole, a forerunner to the work of the LORD on the Cross. Remember Nehus tan, the brass thing. Hezekiah destroyed it in 2 KI 18.
11 Now these things happened to them as an example, and they were written for our instruction, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.
12 Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed that he does not fall. No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and GOD is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.
No matter what our temptation circumstance that surround our temptation are GOD wants us to know that our temptation is not at all unique.
HEB 12:1-3, Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
A small mountain pass, with the idea of an army being surrounded by the enemy, and then suddenly seeing an escape route to safety. Like a mountain pass, the way of escape isn’t necessarily an obvious nor is it necessarily an easy one. Especially if it is that one area that so easily entangles us.
We are reminded that to be tempted is not sin, but to entertain temptation to act upon it or to surrender to temptation is sin.
These pagan banquets, given in the honor of idols, spoke of unity with demons who often took advantage of those who were worshipping them.To eat at a pagan temple banquet was to have fellowship at the altar of idols.
The cup of blessing is also called the cup of redemption, redemption being the blessing. It was the 3rd cup in the Passover, the last cup that Yeshua shared with HIS Disciples. The one we reference as “the new covenant in HIS blood.”
Paul says that demonic spirits take advantage of idol worship to deceive and enslave people. With or without knowing it, idol worshippers are glorifying demons in their sacrifice.
HE has a right over all of our worship, and thus HE also has a right has a right to be offended if we give our fellowship to demons. It doesn’t matter that the Corinthian Christians didn’t intend to worship demons at these heathen feasts in pagan temples. It was equivalent to them doing it, it was done just the same.
As we all know, just because something is permitted does not mean it is beneficial to us to do. The Corinthians did not seek the helpful things, or the things that would edify.
Prizes for the victors were an important part of Greek athletics. The word athletics BTW comes from the Greek word athlon which means the winners prize.
Instead of wanting to go forward with the plan of GOD, they wanted to know how much they could get away with and still be Christians.
The Corinthian Christians asked the question “What’s the harm to me in doing this thing,” they did not ask the question: What’s the possible harm to others in doing this thing?
Specifically, if the Christian ate the meat, the pagan might conclude that his guest was doing something Christians should not do. He would be wrong, of course.
Perception = A persons Reality but not necessarily the Truth.
And the same will be said for many a believer, if they had kept that in mind from the beginning of their walk with GOD, things would have been a lot easier.
