It's got very nice graphics and sound on all computers, while gameplay is excellent. It follows the movie storyline while giving you the option to do some things differently. Overall, an excellent film tie-in.
It was programmed using the SCUMM engine featuring better graphics and more animations than Maniac Mansion and Zak McKracken, better music, as well as various other improvements..
It was initially released for IBM Compatibles with EGA and CGA cards, the Atari ST and the Amiga in 1989. The Mac version followed in 1990.
All 16 colour versions look almost identical with small differences in the sound. The music sounds best on the Amiga and Adlib, while the sound effects sound better on the Mac and the Amiga.
The FM Towns version was released on CD-ROM and featured 256 colour graphics, excellent sound effects and high quality CD music tracks. This is the best version.
The 256 colour release was later ported to floppy disks for VGA PCs. It looks almost identical to the FM Towns but there is no CD music.
REM *** User's Memories ***
I first read about it on Pixel Magazine's Adventure column in February 1990 and played it when I bought my Amiga 500. I liked the animations and overall improvements compared to Maniac Mansion, which were eventually perfected in Monkey Island. It was one of my favourite adventure games. I still play it from time to time, when feeling nostalgic.
