NOTE: Although I wrote this song in 1975 this version, from a 4 Track Multi-tracked cassette deck probably dates to the mid to late 1980s (I'm leaning toward mid). As anyone from my era knows a lot of songs from the 70s were long musical "suites" (think YES, Jethro Tull, Rush, etc.). I met a keyboardist during that time, Mike, that wrote some awesome extended type stuff so I thought I'd try my hand in writing like that. YES it's not.. but it has some good moments & of course I was never happier for this song than to have it in a complete (i.e. with all 5 parts) "suite" fairly similar to the way I heard in my head for all those years. Since I had no recorder at the time I wrote it I wasn't able to record it when we put a short lived band, "Lamb" together. We played all original songs ..especially as three of our five band members were songwriters!

MICHAEL G STRICKLAND
THE POETS HAVE COME AND THEY'VE WRITTEN SOME
OF THE WORDS THAT YOU DESERVE
BUT A WALK DOWN MEMORY LANE
WOULD SHOW IT'S JUST THE SAME
AS THE WORDS WE'VE ALREADY HEARD
THE SONG THAT ONCE WAS HERE
SEEMED TO DISAPPEAR
AT A TIME WHEN ALL WAS FINE
I LOVE YOUR STYLE AND GRACE
CUT MY HANDS TO TOUCH YOUR FACE
BUT THE WORDS MAY NEVER RHYME
SEE
THERE MAY BE MORE FISH IN THE SEA
BUT NONE WERE MEANT FOR ME
KNOWN WHAT'S MINE FOR SUCH A TIME
AND THOUGH IT MAY SEEM FAST
I WANT A LOVE TO LAST
THRU THE YEARS BEYOND THE TEARS
I'VE LOST THOSE BINDING CHAINS
MY LIFE'S BEEN SOMEHOW CHANGED
IF THE SUN REFUSED TO SHINE
I'D BURN A CANDLE LOW
THEN I'D HATE TO SEE YOU GO
IF YOU'RE LEAVING ME BEHIND
SEE
I THOUGHT I COULD EXPLAIN
PERHAPS JOIN IN YOUR GAME
HERE TODAY DRIFTI..
