Nieuwerbrug aan den Rijn is the starting point and after a few minutes (8.15), we're back in Woerden (Laurium). At 12.00 I probably saw some birds of prey I think. I can't remember. At 13.14 you can see an artist's impression of a Roman watchtower along the river, two thousand years ago. In Woerden we're diverted sometimes for short distances but I stayed as close to the river as possible. The last frame is of the river taking a right turn upstream towards Utrecht.

The river Oude Rijn was the most northern boundary of the Roman empire. Along this border (Limes) they built many fortresses. Nowadays Roman finds regularly show up when dredging the river or building houses.

This channel is my attempt to share with you the peace and quiet I experience whilst riding my bicycle in the Netherlands.
