In this video I dissolve 5 grams of depleted uranium metal shavings in red fuming nitric acid to produce a crude uranyl nitrate solution. Not being 100% sure what final form this uranyl nitrate is going to take before using it for further experiments this video covers only the dissolution of the metal to produce the solution. I will filter the solution through glass wool, evaporate to remove as much excess HNO3 as possible, before using the solution to make some uranyl compounds. As things stand now the plan is to produce ammonium uranyl carbonate and hydroylamine uranate.
