Kashmiris Protest on 3rd September 2019

This protest took place on the day MPs returned to Parliament after the recess on Tuesday 3rd September, 2019. Two things struck me about it. Firstly, although Kashmiris in this country are minority group, the number of people attending the protest seemed to me to outnumber the number attending the so called People's Vote rally later in the day.
Secondly, there seems to be a general movement among people world wide to push back against increasingly authoritarian governments, from Hong Kong to Russia, Tibet to Venezuela, the Kashmiris in India and the Uighurs in China, although they are enduring a severe crack down.
I think what is happening in the EU can be seen as part of this zeitgeist, although for the moment it seems only the Yellow Vests in France, and the Catalans in Spain have experienced some form of police violence.
Some people want to be free, others are afraid of exactly that and try to stop it by any means. Why should the idea of free people, equal under the law and able to hold lawmakers to account, be so frightening?
