Boccherini completed this quintet in 1798 for a commission from a Spanish noble. The cello that is normally part of a quintet was replaced with a guitar, and the final movement of the work includes a ‘Fandango’, a dance developed in Spain in the early 18th century.

The work is comprised of three movements:
I. Pastorale
II. Allegro maestoso
III. Grave assai - Fandango
