Sean Murphy is the writer/artist in the book. Batman: Curse of the White Knight is visually stunning. Murphy’s line art features his trademark sketchy effects. Sean Murphy has an amazing gift for emoting character faces. Sean Murphy’s character designs continue to shine. His Batman has a familiar but very distinct look and feel, most notably his enormous chin. He looks like he can take a massive punch.
Color artist Matt Hollingsworth continues his stellar work on The White Knight series. The muted color pallet of Matt Hollingsworth perfectly illuminates Murphy’s harsh, gritty Gotham setting. This book has a look and feel totally unique to Sean Murphy and Matt Hollingsworth. White Knight set the bar for future Murphyverse books at a tremendously high level. Curse of the White Knight Book One manages to exceed it.
Sean Murphy does a great job clarifying the aftermath of previous events and reframing character motivations. I have a few small critiques regarding character actions following Napier reverting back to Joker. Sean Murphy does a great job laying the foundation for another amazing story in the Murphyverse. There’s not really room for any action yet and the issue is exposition heavy. Despite that it doesn’t come off as overwhelming and reads at an extremely brisk pace.
Curse of the White Knight feels like the beginning of another excellent Batman story. Sean Gordan Murphy brings..
