Otto Wilhelm Rahn was a German medievalist in Nazi Germany during the 1930s. Rahn was fascinated by many legends of past such as King Arthur and the holy grail. Rahn claimed the holy grail could be found in southern France, and joined the SS in order to get funding for his trips there. He was openly homosexual which led to him falling out of favour with the Nazi leadership and later killed in mysterious circumstances that led to him being found frozen to death on an Austrian mountain. Though the death is recorded as a suicide it is widely believed he was put on the mountain and abandoned by the Nazis
