After the OVA (that came out in 1993-1994) the next on the list for this franchise is the movie they made in 2000. It's pretty much a straight up sequel, if you watch nothing else from it I recommend you start off with the 5 ovas and then the movie. There is more stuff out there but I personally think this is a good introduction point to any interested fan with relatively low time invested and even if you want more later, might as well start here.
*************************SPOILER REVIEW*************************
After the 5 episodes ova, the movie turns out to be better and also has a more serious story without losing the typical atmosphere.
The animation is better than the ova, and looks very nice. The characters are the same as ever, but there are more action scenes which are animated pretty well.
The voices and music are good as usual, so not much to tell about those.
The story is done well, without too much exaggeration, but with just enough drama to keep things interesting. The comedy parts from the ova are almost completely gone, since this movie focuses more on the drama part. And does that pretty well.
The characters are done well, but Celestine lacks quite some character development. Same goes for Peorta, who looks like she has a big role in the movie, but it never gets anywhere. Still, the other characters look good enough to be able to give this a nice mark.
I also liked the part where the angels of goddesses are basically Stands from JoJo but for females. It's a pretty fun concept, imho. Wish more anime would use this concept without worrying about it being a copycat, though I guess, if more used it, it wouldn't feel that unique, would it?
I liked this movie better than the ova for some reason. Perhaps because everyone is already introduced and now we can start with a real story instead of introducing new characters without developing the rest.
While the ova was more like a comedy/romance, this is the real romance/drama they have to offer. Plenty of enjoyment watching this one.
