Unsurprisingly, Elvis adopted Hawaii as his haven in the beginning of his career. He first performed there in November 1957, and since then he never lost an opportunity to revisit the islands.
In March 1961, nearing the 20th anniversary of Pearl Harbor's attack, Elvis was called in to do a benefit concert to raise money for the construction of the USS Arizona Memorial.
As part of the concert's promotion, Colonel Parker paid for a radio program to be broadcasted on March 18, 1961; "Elvis Salutes the USS Arizona" presented Gospel tracks from Elvis' records interleaved with narrations by reporter and DJ Tom Moffat.
Elvis' benefit concert was aired live on March 25, 1961 and was and had a good profit.
Up until 1977, Elvis donated around US$ 64 thousand for the memorial.
Here we bring a new edition with the show and radio program mentioned above, plus some extras. We hope you like it. Enjoy!
