Lady Franklin's Lament

I heard Phil Bates do this song at the Irish festival here in Yass last weekend. When I went looking for the lyrics I found that the 1850 broadside is quite different to the version that Martin Carthy made popular.

It bothers me that all the parts from Jane Franklin's perspective have been cut from the 1850 version to make the 'folk revival' version, I much prefer the longer original lyrics.

Lady Franklin kept hoping her husband was alive and funding expeditions until she died 30 years after he departed in 1845.
