Johnny Kelly (Gig Young) is having an affair with Angel Face (Mala Powers) and is ready to resign from the police force and leave his wife. In order to get quick money to escape Chicago and start life anew with Angel Face, Kelly accepts an assignment from a shady businessman and has a very eventful last night on duty.
