Since The Force Awakens came out, some fans have been calling Rey a Mary Sue. Numerous videos have been made breaking down the character and have shown at length why Rey really is a Mary Sue. Fans of the Disney Sequel Trilogy have defended Rey and have called Luke a Gary Stu. J.J. Abrams' recent interview with Rolling Stone has shed new light on Rey and how the character came to be.
