In this video we examine the events in #Ceuta during the last week, the implications for #nationalist political action and what it says about the future of relations between European and Middle Eastern countries.
Enabled by the Moroccan state, large numbers of Africans attempted to enter the Spanish enclave of Ceuta illegally during the last week, with over 8000 arriving in a single day. They literally swam from Morocco into Spanish territory.
The response of the Spanish state has seemingly been quite positive. They deployed the army and have already sent most of the migrants back to Morocco.
The current Spanish administration began its time in office very soft on migration. They undermined Salvini's efforts to defend Europe by receiving NGO migrant ships blocked from entering Italy. However, the electoral threat from Spain's nationalist #Vox Party has seen them taking a harder line. It's clear that even mainstream left-wing parties in Europe wish to avoid a repeat of the 2015 migrant crisis. However, this merely reflects a change in their political strategy, not commitment to the preservation of European civilisation.
As has been discussed on this channel previously. Our neighbours in the Middle East are attempting to leverage migration to score political points against European states. In this case, Morocco hoped to push Spain into recognising Moroccan control of Western Sahara.
