September 1998... the month and year where the world is formally introduced to true terror, with ground zero for this new age of fear being the American Midwestern town of Racoon City...
With both the "Ecliptic Express" ("Resident Evil Zero") and "Mansion" ("Resident Evil") incidents put behind them, the surviving members of Raccoon City Police Department's special forces team S.T.A.R.S. (Special Tactics And Rescue Service) attempt to shed light on the horrific conspiracy surrounding these incidents to the rest of Raccoon City and the general public. But Umbrella Inc., the pharmaceutical giant that was ultimately responsible for setting both of these incidents in motion, has its home in Raccoon City, where they practically employ most of the city's population through their various local businesses, and the general public see Umbrella as a whole in a positive light - no one believed the survivors' story about how Umbrella was conducting secret, illegal viral experiments in the nearby Arklay Mountains, and even if any of them did they'd have to challenge the very same company that employs them and risk putting themselves in serious financial strain, and it became obvious that NO ONE would be willing to do that... On top of all that, the surviving S.T.A.R.S. members' attempt to start a formal investigation into the company itself is impeded by the R.P.D's Chief of Police himself, making any attempts on their end to obtain legal evidence of Umbrella's misdoings close to impossible. Weeks pass without further incident... until a series of strange attacks begin taking place in the streets of Raccoon City itself, ones that mirror the same attacks that took place in the Arklay Mountains prior to the Ecliptic Express and Mansion Incidents...
Fast-forward to the present day in late September of 1998 - Leon S. Kennedy, a new recruit of Raccoon City's R.P.D., and Claire Redfield, the younger sister of R.P.D. S.T.A.R.S. member and survivor Chris Redfield, both make their way into Raccoon city, with Leon wanting to investigate the week's long silence from the R.P..D after being told to stay away from the city and await on standby for further orders, and Claire wanting to look into the whereabouts of her older brother after not hearing from him for several weeks on end. Unfortunately for them both, they're about to walk straight into a living nightmare that could be adequately described as "Hell on Earth"... and they have to rely on Neosekken to help them make it through it. Things look quite grim indeed, and Neo is not certain how much his past experience with earlier RE titles will help him with this remake of the classic PlayStation 1 game. To make matters even more challenging, he decides to try out the game's "Hardcore" mode right out of the gate despite never having played it before in order to bring some of the gameplay closer to that of the classic games (limited saves included). This is undoubtedly going to make life hell for Neo at various points, but despite the deck being effectively stacked against him he's feeling confident enough that he'll be able to clear the game on Hardcore mode without TOO much trouble.
God help the dumb bastard if the exact opposite ends up proving to be true...
