There have have been a spate of clashes involving Dublin youth and predominantly Brazilian delivery riders who use English schools to acquire visas in order to work in Ireland, often for years.

It is unclear what caused the clash in a recent video circulating online. One Dublin youth can be heard accusing a rider of spitting on him and requesting a fight with the man.

Philip Boucher-Hayes standing in for Joe Duffy on Liveline heard from a number of Brazilians who plan to hold a protest next Saturday on O'Connell St against "violence towards immigrants, xenophobia and the stealing of bikes and motorbikes".

One rider who had been living in Dublin for seven months has returned home to Brazil after suffering a broken nose in a violent attack.
