Metal Unit - Playthrough Part 1

Started playing Metal Unit - a 2D action platformer. The aesthetics remind me of a 90s anime and the dialogue does a great job of introducing the characters and the world. You have a melee attack, a range attack, a sub-weapon (with recharge time), an ultimate move (filled by killing enemies) along with some passive equipment. All this combined gives you a lot of options to fight enemies, especially considering you can change all of these weapons as you find new ones. I noticed that the weapons have XP, but I'm not sure if filling that up increases their stats. Story-wise you play as Unit 11 (or Joana as curiously named by her AI helper) - a new recruit to the Metal Unit program, which is responsible to protect humanity from monsters coming from the centre of Earth names Garous. Apparently her sister was also one such protector, but she betrayed humanity. Her superior officer Yuno doesn't believe things are as clear cut, but after the duo is attacked by a dragon Yuno seemingly dies. The story is surprisingly packed and dynamic.
