Christmas presents for his nieces/nephews weren't abandoned
while he deliberately tortured his family with his disappearance.

I will reserve my opinion on the supposed sightings because I haven't found information on those sources but am immediately skeptical considering public sightings of missing persons generally tend to be due to mistaken identity.

I am of the opinion Koecher met with foul play right there in that residential subdivision with someone with whom he had a prearranged meeting, and that
Henderson Police squandered investigative opportunities to zero in on the perpetrator.

I also suspect
his sleezeball landlord knows more than he claims,
based on the morning calls from him to Steven.
I'm betting the cell phone was in someone else's possession
as it was traveling. There are a million places to hide a body in that desert.
