PREPPER PRACTICE - Dehydration - Part 2, Sour Cream - August 1, 2019

Here are the results of 4 pints of sour cream reduced to a powder by using dehydration to remove the water in the product. It was tad bit difficult in removing the thinner portions of the sour cream once it was dry. I recommend a thick spreading of the product so the removal from the sheets is easier. It will take longer as the thickness will lengthen the dehydration process. I will be drying another batch during the next week to see what the exact thickness should be for ease of separating it from the sheet.
The texture of the sour cream once it was completely dehydrated was that of thin sugar in feel. It ground very easily and did form clumps at the blender arms but was very easily removed.

Fruit Roll Up sheets or trays for your dehydrator

Spread a thin coating (about 1/4 thick) of the sour cream onto the non porous sheet.
Set the trays into your dehydrator.
Set the unit to the lowest temperature setting (115 F.)
Set the timer for 6 hours.
Wait until the sour cream is completely dehydrated before putting it into a container of your choice.
(The sour cream should turned to a powder when crumbled after dehydration) I will use my smoothie blender to form that powder and place contents into sterile Ball Pint Jars.
