Edward Fudge became a champion of this error that denies the eternal judgment of scripture and recriminates it as a product of greek philosophy not unlike Unitarians and Oneness Pentecostal (modalists) adherents who also straw man the biblical teaching concerning the triunity of God. We must always keep 'the plain thing.. the main thing'. We read scripture in context and use the plain texts to interpret the obscure texts. Here is a plain and emphatic reference from Jesus himself (cf. Mt. 25:31-46 full context) specifically vs 46 "And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal." The word eternal here is identical. Either it means 'continuous and ongoing' in both instances or not. It holds that exact same meaning in both instances else you would be committing the logical fallacy of equivocation.
That is, if the righteous receive life age-enduring (eternal) then likewise the wicked go into punishment age-enduring (eternal).
