Cycling along the river Oude Rijn ('Old Rhine'). 4/6

On my way home from Bodegraven I took the path along the south side of the river. A path like this is called a Jaagpad (tow path). In the past, ships would often be tugged by people or animals and this path is where they would have walked.

The river Oude Rijn was the most northern boundary of the Roman empire. Along this border (Limes) they built many fortresses. Nowadays Roman finds regularly show up when dredging the river or building houses.

This channel is my attempt to share with you the peace and quiet I experience whilst riding my bicycle in the Netherlands.

*Until now I was working on ways to decrease the wind noise. Nothing I tried made a significant improvement. So now I've decided to accept the simple fact that the Netherlands is a windy country.
