Rule 2: You're stuck at your destination until you've recreated the condition of the timeline at the point of departure. So in a nutshell, since we've landed in the carnival in the past before Past Rufus and company arrive, we need to arrange everything as it will be when they do arrive. The Gravedigger needs to become a prophet, a hole needs to be cleared out for Past Rufus to land in, The Seer's crystal ball needs to be turned into a bowling ball, etc. Actually The Seer's crystal ball turns out to be a portable portal device to Paradox City. I knew he was a fraud. When Rufus gets back to Paradox City, a wedding is waiting to be started. Rokko proposed to Rita after all. After Rufus gives Rokko a suit and a ring, he takes the timepod in the garage and uses it. This sends him to a desert littered with clock parts in an unspecified point in time. The junk seller nearby just refers to this place as the Waste of Time. The timepod is no good anymore because a pond of tachyon is leaking out. Rufus creates makeshift arrows dipped in tachyon for a crossbow. He activates a portal back to Paradox City only in the future. The place is in ruins and everyone is dead except for Rita who Rokko didn't marry after all. Then who did Rokko marry? Judging by the pair of skeletons nearby, it was Goal he married. No, this wasn't supposed to happen!
