The Academy Awards are upon us and once again there is a frenzy of negative coverage which spinmeisters claim is just "good publicity." Many of the complains surround the nixing of four awards from the show into commercial time, even though the winners' speech will be televised later in the show. This follows a very bad kerfluffle over Kevin Hart that also was resolved unprofessionally. Is this something new? No, the Academy Awards, since their start as a union-busting stunt, have always been plagued by seemingly bad choices, clear politicking, and unbridled favoritism. But, they're show biz, and we really wouldn't want it any other way.
