A versão de MS-DOS do Golden Axe foi portada por John R. Sanderson e Kenn Sanderson para este sistema e lançada em 1990, pela Sega. Embora faltem alguns elementos em relação à versão de arcade do game, como a possibilidade de cravar a espada, e apresentar baixa qualidade de áudio, é um port bastante decente e divertido. Inclusive, supera, em alguns aspectos, outras versões do Golden Axe. Por exemplo, a do Master System só tem o bárbaro para jogar e a do Mega Drive/Genesis apresenta uma paleta de cores menos rica. A versão de MS-DOS do Golden Axe conta modo duel e arcade para até dois jogadores simultâneos.

The MS-DOS Golden Axe version was ported by John R. Sanderson and Kenn Sanderson for this system and released in 1990, by Sega. Even though it lacks some elements if compared to the arcade version of the game, like the jump spiking attack, and having avery low audio quality, it is a quite decent and fun port. In fact, it is even superior to some other Golden Axe's versions. For instance, the Master System's only has the barbarian to play with and the Genesis/Mega Drive one features a less rich color pallete. The MS-DOS Golden Axe version has a duel and arcade modes for up to two players simultaneously.
