Memphis Democrat accused of stealing $600K
The U.S. Department of Justice has charged state Sen. Katrina Robinson (D-Memphis) with theft and embezzlement after she allegedly spent more than $600,000 from a federal grant on personal items.
The charges were announced by Michael Dunavant, U.S. attorney for the Western District of Tennessee, who said the money came from $2.2 million in federal grants to The Healthcare Institute, a for-profit health care training business operated by Robinson.

New legislation would force Alberta employees to opt-in to have union dues spent on political causes
Alberta is set to become the first jurisdiction in Canada to require employees to opt-in if they want their union dues to go towards political parties or causes.
Bill 32, the Restoring Balance in Alberta’s Workplaces Act, tabled in the legislative assembly on Tuesday, still requires union members pay dues for what the government considers “core union activities” but mandates that employees opt-in if they want to pay dues towards political parties or causes.
