Brook Green Suite, H. 190 by Gustav Holst

Holst completed this short suite for orchestra in 1933 for use of the junior orchestra at the St Paul’s Girls’ School in West London. The name of the work comes from Brook Green, the suburb where Holst married Emily Isobel Harrison. Sections of the work are based on English folk tunes, and the final movement is based on a song Holst heard during a puppet show in 1929. This suite was also composed while Holst was recovering from a stomach ulcer in hospital.

This suite is comprised of three movements:
I. Prelude
II. Air
III. Dance
