Andante cantabile in E major, L. 10 by Claude Debussy

This work for piano duet was completed in 1881 while Debussy was a student at the Paris Conservatoire. By 1881 Debussy had completed the first movement for a symphony in B minor as a gift for Nadescha von Meck, a talented pianist and a former patron of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. This work was lost for nearly 50 years until an autographed copy was located in a Russian archive. It is thought that this Andante cantabile was to serve as the first movement for a three-movement symphony, with the ‘symphony in B minor’ as the second movement.
