Handel completed this sonata for violin and harpsichord in 1724 while living at 25 Brook Street in London, the site of which is now the Handel House Museum. 1724 was a productive year for Handel, composing three operas and other instrumental works.

This sonata is comprised of four movements:
I. Grave
II. Allegro
III. Adagio
IV. Allegro
