Sabaton - Union (English Lyrics)

The allied invasion of Italy in 1943 went off extremely well, until allied troops were stalled at the abbey of Monte Cassino. To dislodge the Germans, the allies bombed the abbey and surrounding buildings, but this only produced perfect defensive cover for German machine gunners taking cover in the rubble.
Though outnumbered, outgunned and low on supplies, the German gunners held the position for 3 days before being overrun. Estimates of the battle damage suggests that allied casualties along the 20km Monte Cassino line as it was known reached as much as 50,000 soldiers.
